The mission aims to ensure every rural household has access to a functional household tap connection (FHTC) for drinking water supply.

The primary objective of the Jal Jeevan Mission

is to provide tap water connections to over 18 crores (180 million) rural households by 2024. The mission focuses on the principles of equity, inclusiveness, and sustainability to address the water scarcity and quality challenges faced by rural communities.

The Implementation Of The Jal Jeevan Mission

involves various strategies, including the development of local infrastructure for water supply, community involvement, and decentralized water management. The mission emphasizes the use of technology, innovation, and capacity-building to achieve its goals. To ensure the sustainability of water supply systems, the mission promotes water source sustainability measures, water conservation, and efficient water management practices. It also aims to create awareness among communities about the importance of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. The Jal Jeevan Mission is seen as a significant step towards achieving universal access to safe drinking water in rural areas of India, improving the overall well-being and quality of life for rural communities.
